Kamonande History
The Kamonande Nature Reserve comprises two farm portions in the Waterberg district near Vaalwater.
The first farm of 850ha, consisting of a variety of bushveld, savannah and mountainous areas, was purchased in 2001 and initially developed as a holiday resort with 8 small chalets. Mr Leon Erwee who was also involved in the marketing of the Sanlameer Development on the Kwazulu Natal South coast, where fractional ownership was introduced in the 1970's, introduced this proven concept to Kamonande.
New chalets were subsequently built to reach the current capacity of 23 chalets, and no more chalets will be built on this portion.
A second farm of 1062ha, adjacent to the first that was called Avontuur, was purchased in 2005 and a decision was made to only build larger chalets on this farm, with the view of keeping the density at 34 chalets per 1000 ha. At this stage about 26 chalets have been completed.
Two basic camp sites with ablution facilities offer camping facilities to owners who wish to visit the farm outside their designated weeks.
In 2010, buffalo were introduced and are kept in a fenced off area of 100ha in order to provide shareholders, hikers or day walkers, and cyclists safe passage on the rest of the reserve.
